Introducing FCG : Flex Cairngorm Code Generator

As mentionned in my previous post about Cairngorm code generators, I've decided to release a public preview version, along with a video, of FCG (Flex Cairngorm Code Generator), the tool I created for my Flex developments.

You can check it here. Please let me know what you think about it.

Hi, I'm trying to install this AIR application, but while installing i'm getting an error, "This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer supported. Please contact the application author for an updated version." May be because i have a new version of AIR and this application doesn't supports that. Can you please guide me. please reply me on

The current (0.9.0) version of FCG is compatible with AIR beta 3. The next version (which will be released in the coming days) will target AIR 1.0. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Any chance that FCG for the release version of AIR will be available soon? I can't find the beta 3 version of the AIR runtime anywhere. Also, I'd be willing to provide the code to add ColdFusion support to the application in addition to PHP, Java, and C#. Let me know if you're interested. You can reach me at Thanks, Randy Martin

It is available. Sorry, I have no plan to support Coldfusion in the near future.

Since both Coldfusion and Flex are Adobe products, and since Flash Remoting is built into Coldfusion, I think the ability for FCG to read Coldfusion CFC's to get the back-end database info would be really useful. If you would be willing to share the source code for FCG with me, I would gladly add Coldfusion support to your application. I'm offering to help you. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. Thanks, Randy

Hi Randy, This is exactly what I have in mind : let the community add support for more server-side technologies as an input and frameworks as an output. I will share my plans about FCG 1.0 licencing model and open sourcing very soon, so stay tuned ;)

Hi, In the video, you seems to use an earlier version of FCG, with Tabs. In that video, you show how we can associate events to appropriates commands. But in the new realease (UPDATED on March, 28th 2008), I can't find this feature. Did you remove it ? Do I have to manualy specified those associations ? Would you please say me more about that.

david_deraedt on April 20th 2008

Yes I did remove it, because it took actually longer to associate Events with Commands with a GUI than to just do it by code.

hai is flex code generator supports java? if not can tell which code generator i prefer for java....

david_deraedt on September 14th 2008

Yes it does support java files as input (not jars, unfortunately). There also are other generators out there which support java too, so be sure to check other solutions too to find which fits best your needs.
